Why do I weigh too much?

The results from the newest research stand in glaring contrast to the common conception of the causes of overweight.

Both in the population and in the health services it is a common conception that the overweight people bring it on themselves. They can just eat less and exercise more. The overweight have the same conception. The many failed attempts just proves that they are not in control of their lives.

If you think that about yourself – ‘I brought it on myself’, ‘I’m no good’ – you end up losing your confidence. In the end the overweight give up on losing weight – ‘it doesn’t work, I can’t, I can just as well eat then’.

However, there is not one single scientific investigation that shows that the overweight bring it on themselves. It has never been proven that development of obesity is caused by increased intake of food or reduced physical activity alone.
