Discontinued Intercourse (Coitus Interruptus)
Discontinued intercourse is probably the most common method in the entire world. It is a method that all couples probably have experience with at one point or another in their life.
How does it work?
Penis is withdrawn from the vagina before the man ejaculates, to prevent sperm from entering the vagina.
Safety
If the method is used correctly, there is an 80 % chance that the woman does not become pregnant during 1 year. When the man becomes erected, a little fluid may flow from the penis. This is not a real ejacuation but just a little fluid that the man does not always notice. The fluid may contain sperm that are therefore led into the vagina some time before the man ejaculates. This is one of the reasons why the method is not very safe. Another reason is that the man does not withdraw in time before the ejaculation.
Disadvantages
• The greatest disadvantage is the high chance of failure.
• The method demands that the man concentrate about something else than the actual enjoyment and therefore some experience the method as uncomfortable.
• The method does not protect from sexually transmitted diseases.
Advantages
• The methods is free.
• It is always available.
• There are no side effects.
• Can be used by everyone.
