Who has Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is a very common condition. It is hard to state precise numbers for how many women who suffer from it because many do not seek a doctor and because many are too ashamed to admit it. However, it is estimated that one in every five women suffers from urinary incontinence.

It varies a lot how the individual woman experiences urinary incontinence. However, many state that urinary incontinence poses a significant problem in their everyday life.

Urinary incontinence affects all ages – but older women are particularly affected. Around 3-5% of the younger women (around 20 years old) suffer from urinary incontinence; the percentage rises to 10% with women around 40 years old. With the older women (around 80 years old), it is one in every four women. Around half of all inhabitants on a nursing home have problems with holding water.
