Other More Rare Causes

There are other –more rare – causes of troublesome discharge. Here we should mention gonorrhoea and infection with Trichomonas vaginalis.

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted illness that infects during intercourse without a condom and that can appear as troublesome discharge and smarting during urination.

Trichomonas was previously a common cause of troublesome discharge but only amounts to around 5% of the cases with troublesome discharge. Trichomonas is a single-celled organism and infects during intercourse without a condom. A typical sign of infection with Trichomonas is an increased amount of smelly, yellowish, often foamy, discharge. Itching and pain in the vagina can also occur.
